Description

  • Tamiya Bipedal Walking Robot
  • Mimics real walking motion
  • Customizable with additional parts for a unique appearance
  • Operates continuously for approximately two hours
  • Direction can be altered by adjusting the gearbox and limiter

The Tamiya Bipedal Walking Robot is a recent addition to the Educational Construction Series. This robot is designed to mimic the motion of walking by shifting its weight from one side to the other. The weight transfer unit, consisting of a gearbox and battery case, moves from right to left, causing the model to rock and its legs to move forward.

The dimensions of the robot are 85mm in length, 132mm in width, and 107mm in height, which extends to 138mm when the guide rod is attached. The robot weighs approximately 138g, inclusive of batteries. It requires two AAA batteries, which are not included with the product. The robot can run continuously for approximately two hours.

The gear ratio of the robot is 114.7:1 and it includes a low rpm type 130 motor. The speed of the robot is approximately 4.8 cm/s or 170 m/h, meaning it can cover a distance of 1m in about 20 seconds. It is recommended that the robot is operated on even surfaces for optimal performance.

The robot is constructed from light gray plastic parts. The legs and plastic slides are designed with holes to attach additional parts such as universal shafts, arms, and other original parts using tapping screws. This allows for customization of the robot's appearance. The assembly of the robot is straightforward, with a snap-fit/screw-together design. The challenge level for assembly is rated at 3 out of 5, with an estimated assembly time of 120 to 180 minutes.

The robot's movement is facilitated by the conversion of crank rotation into reciprocating motion by the slider. The direction of the robot can be altered by adjusting the gearbox attachment angle and limiter. The gearbox attachment angle can be adjusted to three directions - right, middle, and left - and can be changed even after assembly.

The legs of the robot are equipped with limiters to control the lean of the model. When the limiter is down, the body lean is decreased, and the stride length becomes shorter. The guide rod can be attached to redirect the robot if it encounters an obstacle. The center of gravity of the robot can be altered by making it hold objects such as an AAA battery, which allows the robot to turn.
