The Sherline Single-Axis Slide w/ Programmable CNC Controller 13" (Metric) is an advanced tool designed for precision control in machining applications. This device integrates a single-axis controller with a built-in computer chip, eliminating the need for separate computers or drivers. Users can operate the stepper motor directly via a keypad or input simple program commands for sequenced operations without requiring knowledge of G-code. The system allows for the input of parameters such as direction, travel distance, feed rate, and program pauses, supporting up to 40 programmed steps across two user-settable programs.
The controller can be interconnected with other controllers or CNC systems, enabling synchronized operations through "sense" and "acknowledge" signals. This feature ensures that preprogrammed functions are executed at the correct time during a CNC program sequence. The stepper motor is equipped with dual ball bearings and a preload nut to eliminate endplay, while a dampened coupling connects the motor shaft to the leadscrew. Additionally, the dual-shaft stepper motor allows for manual operation using the included handwheel, providing an alternative to computer-controlled movement.
Mounting options for the slide include provisions from both the bottom and the top, ensuring flexibility in installation. The slide is capable of supporting a weight capacity of approximately 10 lbs, depending on the weight's location and the table's length. Under heavy use, the dovetail area may show wear on the anodized coating after extensive use, but the slide remains functional with proper lubrication.
Note: Do not use WD-40 as a lubricant on these slides, as it will remove the anodized coating from the parts.
