The Sherline Manual 17-Inch Benchtop Lathe (Inch) offers an extended center-to-center distance of 17 inches, providing machinists with additional space compared to the 8-inch tabletop model. This extra capacity is particularly beneficial when working with parts held in a chuck alongside a larger tailstock chuck and a long drill bit. The lathe is equipped with zero adjustable handwheels and a rocker toolpost, enhancing its functionality and precision. It can turn parts up to 3.5 inches in diameter over the bed or up to 1.88 inches over the carriage without the use of riser blocks. With an optional riser block, the lathe can accommodate parts up to 6 inches in diameter over the bed.

The lathe features an electronic speed control system that allows for continuously variable speed adjustments ranging from 70 to 2,800 RPM, eliminating the need for belt changes. A secondary pulley position is available to provide additional torque at lower RPMs if required. This benchtop lathe is ideal for producing small, precision parts and is capable of cutting materials such as wood, plastic, aluminum, and steel with high accuracy.
