The Sherline 10-Inch Tabletop Mill XYZ Base CNC Ready (Inch) is a versatile milling machine designed for users who already possess a Sherline lathe. This model is offered without the headstock and motor/speed control, allowing lathe owners to efficiently transfer these components from their lathe to the mill. This feature provides a cost-effective solution for expanding machining capabilities without the need for redundant equipment.
The 10-inch XYZ base is identical to the base used in the Sherline 5000-series mill, featuring a robust 10-inch base with pre-installed mounts for stepper motors on the X, Y, and Z axes. This configuration is specifically designed to facilitate the installation of stepper motors, although these motors are not included with the purchase. The mill's travel dimensions are X=8.65 inches, Y=3.0 inches, and Z=6.25 inches, providing ample range for various milling tasks.
The CNC-ready XYZ bases are equipped with stepper motor mounts on all three axes, making them ready for the integration of stepper motors. This setup includes three low mass 1-5/8 inch handwheels, which can be attached to the rear shaft of dual shaft stepper motors to enable manual control alongside CNC operation. However, it is important to note that manual control is not feasible until dual shaft stepper motors are installed, as the handwheels cannot be directly mounted onto the stepper motor mounts. These CNC-ready bases are highly regarded in the industry for their ability to control movement in small production line processes, and the addition of computer control significantly enhances automation capabilities.
Note: CNC-ready machines cannot be operated manually until stepper motors are installed.
