Sequent Microsystems 8 Serial Ports 2-Layer Stackable HAT for Raspberry Pi (Compatible w/ Raspberry Pi versions 3 to 5)
Enhances connectivity with 8 serial ports
Integrates 32-bit ARM Cortex processors
Selects hardware address via DIP switch
Includes 3 RS232, 1 RS485, 1 RS422 ports
Stacks two HATs for 16 total serial ports
The Sequent Microsystems 8 Serial Ports 2-Layer Stackable HAT for Raspberry Pi (Compatible w/ Raspberry Pi versions 3 to 5) enhances the connectivity capabilities of the Raspberry Pi by providing eight additional serial ports. This expansion is achieved through the integration of two 32-bit ARM Cortex processors, which communicate with the Raspberry Pi via the I2C port. The hardware address can be selected using a DIP switch, and each port is equipped with an LED indicator to show activity.
This HAT includes three RS232 ports, one RS485 port with a selectable terminator, one RS422 port with a selectable terminator, one CAN port, one 1-Wire port, and one M-BUS port. It is compatible with Raspberry Pi versions 3 to 5 and features a two-layer stackable design, allowing for the stacking of two HATs to achieve a total of 16 serial ports.
The device includes an onboard hardware watchdog, a reset pushbutton, and status LED indicators for each serial port and power. It requires no additional software as the necessary drivers are included in the Linux kernel. The power requirements are minimal, needing a 5V external power supply, and it can provide up to 3.5A of power to the Raspberry Pi through the hardware watchdog.
