The Pololu A89301-Based Sensorless Brushless Motor Controller, 50V, 11A (Soldered Connectors) is a sophisticated device designed for sensorless control of a single brushless DC motor. It is built upon Allegro’s A89301 BLDC driver and operates within a broad voltage range from 5 V to 48 V, with an absolute maximum of 50 V. This controller is capable of delivering a continuous motor current of up to 11 A without the need for additional cooling mechanisms such as heat sinks or forced air.
The controller supports four distinct control interfaces: analog voltage, PWM duty cycle, pulse frequency, and I²C. The I²C interface is particularly versatile, allowing for extensive configuration of the A89301 settings. A configuration utility for Windows is available to facilitate setup when used with a compatible USB-to-I²C adapter. This version of the product is equipped with soldered header pins and terminal blocks, ensuring ease of connectivity.
The device employs a field-oriented control (FOC) algorithm that utilizes sinusoidal waveforms for efficient motor operation. It offers adjustable current limits and can be configured for either open-loop or closed-loop speed control. Additional features include multiple startup options, configurable lock detection, and robust protection mechanisms such as under-voltage lockout, short circuit protection, and reverse-voltage protection up to 40 V.
