Flexes and contracts with heat or electrical current
Recovers original shape with ~200mA or ~100°C
Sets new shape when annealed at ~500°C
0.005-inch diameter nickel-titanium alloy
1-foot length for versatile applications
The Muscle Wire® - 0.005in. Diameter (1 Foot) is a nickel-titanium alloy capable of flexing and contracting when subjected to specific heat or electrical current. This shape memory wire transitions between a malleable martensitic form and a rigid austenite form, allowing it to recover its original shape with significant force upon heating to approximately 100°C or applying a current of around 200mA. It can also be annealed at about 500°C to set a new shape, which it will return to when activated by heat or current.
