You don't know what you're missing!

I do a lot of woodworking in 1/12 scale. I'd looked at ultrasonic cutters, and couldn't justify buying one; I had trouble justifying its usefulness.
I was SO Wrong!
I use it multiple times a day. Cutting patterns, cutting small wood fixtures, styrene, plastics. It leaves an extremely clean cutline; on clear plastics, the edge is nearly polished.
It VASTLY improves productivity, increases accuracy in cuts & leaves a beautiful, finished edge. You need to be a little careful with wood; some types may scorch a little if you cut too slowly. The ultrasonic vibration can generate enough heating really dry wood fibres to singe. Also, cutting unseasoned wood can cause an interesting phenomenon; because of the high moisture content, the ultrasonic vibration heats up the moisture in the wood very rapidly, making the wood itself very warm.
I am constantly finding new uses for this cutter. It's very well built, ergonomic to hold and use, and with two power settings, you can deal with delicate materials safely, or power through heavier stuff with ease. I regularly carve & cut 1/8in hardwoods, more quickly and precisely than with a modelling saw.
