ACROME SMD Red Brushed DC Motor Driver is a specifically designed smart motor control and driver board for robotics and mechatronics projects based on ACROME's SMD product family. This product is connected to a master controller (such as PC, Raspbbery Pi, Arduino...), sends&recieves commands to this master controller in order to control the DC motor and optional SMD Add-On Modules as well. It communicates with the master controller through an optimized RS-485 communication protocol using APIs available in Pyhton, Arduino IDE and Java. Due to the daisychain connection capabilities, up to 255 SMD Motor Drivers can be connected to a single master controller. As the SMD Red DC Motor Driver runs the intensive motor control code onboard, increase in motor count will not add additional CPU load to the master controller.

This product also features a seperate daisy-chain network for optional Add-On Modules. The Add-On modules can be used for different simple or complex input and output tasks such as ultrasound sensing, light measurement, IMU sensing etc. The Add-On module network is connected to the RJ-45 socket carrying the I2C bus and power rails inside (Power over RJ45), with noise/EMI protected CAT5/6 cables, which helps users to place the Add-On Modules (ie. sensors etc.) anywhere in the application/robot, power them and access them from the SMD Red directly. This reduces wire clutter, code complexity thus increase the modularity. Please see Add-On module products' description to learn more.
